Part three of Marianne’s Harris’ festival diary, including Ghostfest, Resurrection Festival and NASS….
JUNE
Festival: Ghostfest (Leeds)
What it’s all about: Ghostfest is a metal/hardcore two day event, now in its 5th year, held in two rooms at Leeds University.
Why did you go?: To cover it for Monster Energy who have been sponsoring the main stage for the last 3 years, the line up was good, had great memories from last year, friends I haven’t seen for a while were going.
Any good bands? Yes loads, including Suicide Silence, Bleed From Within, Viatrophy, Bury Tomorrow, Your Demise, Heart in Hand, Polar.

Festival goer opinion: Good venue, re entry permitted this year, good facilities within the uni, staggered stage times, Monster Energy girls fuelling the masses with free samples.
Photographer’s eye view: Perhaps too many photographers, no flash restrictions (after some persuasion), frustrating one in one out policy imposed on photographers on Sunday afternoon in the second stage because of crazy crowd surfing antics but friendly stage security doing a good job (for the most part), far too much smoke on the main stage, dynamic bands to shoot.
Highlights: Hang outs with the Monster crew, Adam Saunders, not falling down any stairs in the Uni.
How does it rate?: 8 out of 10.

JULY
Festival: NASS (Shepton Mallet, Somerset)
What it’s all about: Lasting for 3 days and playing host to over 20,000 competitors, and action sports and music fans, NASS is the biggest festival of its kind in the UK.
Why did you go?: It’s practically on my doorstep and I’ve taken my family for the last 4 years. The inline skating sessions are exciting to watch.
Any good bands? Despite the alternative/rock line up not being as strong this year, yes. Dubstep and DnB fans were particularly well catered for this year with Flux Pavillion, NERO, Tinie Tempah, Labyrinth, DJ Fresh and Ms Dynamite all making an appearance, along with Cancer Bats, We Are the Ocean and Cerebral Ballzy playing the Kerrang! Stage.

Festival goer opinion: The Dubstep/DnB arena is permanently rammed, accessibility across the spacious whole site is excellent, a huge choice of food stalls, DJs playing in bars, on site camping, decent ticket prices and a massive choice of action sports to watch.
Photographer’s eye view: A large main stage photo pit to accommodate photographers, good access into pits, no restrictions in the Kerrang! Stage, friendly staff, well organised press area.
Highlights: Seeing Chris Casey, Flux Pavillion’s set, meeting Maverick Sabre, watching some kick ass street style inline tricks being pulled off.
How does it rate?: Sports: 8 out of 10. Music: 8 out of 10. Would like to see the open air main stage return next year, and more alternative rock acts for 2012.

Festival: Resurrection Festival (Viveiro, Spain)
What it’s all about: A Monster Energy sponsored 3 day independent alternative punk/hardcore/metal/pop punk festival in a car park in the middle of a town in Northern Spain.
Why did you go?: To cover it for Monster Energy, the line up was amazing, never been to Spain before.
Who played? Pennywise, Bullet for my Valentine, Comeback Kid, Bring Me The Horizon, Your Demise, Architects, Authority Zero, Gorilla Biscuits, CIV, The Real Mckenzies, Angelus Apatrida, Echovolt, Sylosis, 6 Ft Ditch, Sworn Enemy.

Festival goer opinion: Brilliantly laid out site, good viewing, easy access, no on site camping, extremely diverse line up, a big Monster rig to chill out in, crazy cheap ticket prices, not enough toilets.
Photographer’s eye view: No flash restrictions, a high main stage but with great access and awesome lighting, wicked views from the top of the Monster Energy rig, not too many photographers.
Highlights: Meeting the Spanish and French Monster teams, seeing and meeting a large number of bands for the first time, a lovely 4* hotel set in beautiful sweeping hills, meeting some awesome photographers, learning some useful local lingo, being driven around in a Monster truck, lie ins and late starts, awesome bands, Jay from BFMV trollying down a kiddies play slide at 2am.
How does it rate?: 10 out of 10. One of my favourite events of the entire year. Definitely would love to return next year.
